Many businesses still rely on older USB message repeaters and music-on-hold players to provide audio for callers, paging systems, or in-store announcements. These devices may be discontinued, unsupported, or difficult to find instructions for, but many of them still work the same basic way. Audio files are stored on a removable USB drive. This is your guide to learning how to change files on a USB music on hold device.
Easy On Hold works with customers every day who are trying to update, replace, or modernize their business audio. This guide helps customers with legacy USB audio devices understand the basic process for changing the audio file on their USB drive.
This article may help if you have a device from ProDigital, IntelliTouch/On-Hold Plus, Skutch, Nel-Tech Labs, iHold, Bogen/PICA Multi-Messager USB, Valcom, TOA, Mackenzie Labs, Image Audio, Barix, or a similar USB message/music-on-hold player.
Step-by-Step Guide: Change Files on a USB Music On Hold Device
- Remove the USB drive. Unplug the USB drive from your device.
- Insert the USB drive into the PC. Unplug the USB drive from your device.
- Open the USB folder. Unplug the USB drive from your device.
- Back Up Current File. Drag and drop the file on the USB drive to the Desktop or a folder on your PC.
- Remove Old Audio. Right-click the audio file on the USB drive, then click “delete” to remove it.
- Add the new audio file. Locate the updated audio file. Drag/drop it into the USB drive on your PC.
- Insert the updated drive in the device. The updated USB drive is now ready for use. Reinsert it into the device.
- Test Audio. Use the device’s speaker or output to test audio (if available). Call and listen on hold. Adjust volume if needed.
Helpful Note
Some devices play files alphabetically or by number, so file names like 001-message.mp3 and 002-message.mp3 may control playback order. If the device has no USB drive, it may use an SD card, internal memory, software, or an external audio source instead.
